The Raga Dr. N Rajam plays, is Malkauns, (Carnatic version is Hindolam) one of the greatest ragas in Indian Classical Music known for its serpentine structure.
Malkauns ( played after midnight between 12 am to 3 am ) is a serious, meditative raga, and is developed mostly in the lower octave. It effectively explores the internal perplexities of our mind.
Dr. N Rajam is a supremo as a Hindustani violinist and nothing is superfluous in her rendition
